About the Teacher Training Manuals
IHA offers a Teacher Training Manual for each book in the What To Do For Health series. The curriculum in the manuals is designed to give hands-on experience to those who get the book, so they can use it more effectively. Our research shows that recipients who learn how to use a book with hands-on practice tend to use it more frequently and keep it longer.
The Teacher Training Manual gives you everything you need to plan and give a class:
- Designed for programs that distribute a large number of books
- Focus on using the books in a classroom setting during a 1.5- to 2-hour class
- Explain how to help readers use the books through alternate distribution methods, such as an in-home visit, an office visit, or the mail
Each manual includes helpful tips and resources, such as:
- Step-by-step lesson plans
- Teaching tools and how to use them
- How to take attendance and advertise your class
- How to manage unexpected classroom situations
Each manual also contains an appendix that includes:
- Budget worksheet
- Sample flyers (in English and Spanish)
- Class registration, sign-in, and evaluation forms
- Handouts
